Homestays

Homestays is a diaristic project of self documentation. This photo series served as a means of understanding a period of transition in my personal life. A change in location, career, and the traumatic ending of a relationship, I found myself reliant on the kindness of friends and acquaintances as they offered me temporary housing until I found my footing. A guest room, an air mattress, shared kitchens and bathrooms. Each month I was immersed into the rhythm of a new household and my place in it.
A vintage dress, purchased for an alternatively envisioned project, became an anchor point in a photo series about kindness and generosity, but also depression and displacement. Daily drives through the Blue Ridge mountains became a therapeutic practice. Coming across former homes nestled in the mountain sides, reabsorbed into the environment through time and the pull of kudzu, provided a visual representation of grief and loss, but also a comfort in the recognition of change, entropy, and embracing impermanence.
